THE GATEWAY PROJECT
One of the aims of Petworth Vision, is enhancing the sense of place in the town. A key aim is to improve the ‘gateway’ from the car park into The Old Bakery area and into Golden Square.
Broome Jenkins consultants, who carried out the initial consultations for the company on the town, were engaged to help Petworth Vision with the project to ameliorate the gateway from the car park into The Old Bakery area and into Golden Square.
Broome Jenkins advertised the competition in 2016, amongst architects and design professionals, before shortlisting two candidates. They were then given an honorarium to work up their ideas for selection.
The designs concept from architects fiftypointeight were selected as an inspiration, and Petworth Vision is now working alongside Petworth Town Council and Chichester District Council to produce a final scheme.
Principally, this project improves the car park in Pound Street, creating a welcoming landscaped area, suitable for licensing activities such as performances and markets and with enhanced wayfinding solution for the town.
